The image is scanned at a resolution of 600dpi and saved (as a tiff - see image storage - file formats).
The project uses an Epson GT-1200 scanner which can scan up to A3 to a higher resolution than is required.
However, it is hoped that in the future the composite images pasted together from the larger maps will be replaced by digital images taken with a high specification camera, when such equipment becomes affordable. The present state of digital cameras is such that one capable of taking high enough resolution images is beyond the budget of the project. The preferred one has been scanning, but where this is not possible a digital camera could be used. Two means could have been used to capture images for the project.
